Overview
EZDerm builds software for dermatology practices in the US, including applications for patients and tools for managing the day-to-day work of a practice.
The challenge
The existing Backbone and CoffeeScript frontend was becoming harder to maintain. We needed to update it while continuing to support the product's healthcare requirements and ongoing development.
The approach
A gradual move to React, alongside the team's regular work on new features.
My part in the project
I worked on the Sadio patient platform and Practice Management System, initially in Backbone and CoffeeScript. After the senior engineer left, I took on more responsibility, mentored junior developers, and led the frontend migration to React.
What changed
We moved an established healthcare product to a newer frontend architecture, made it easier to maintain, and helped the frontend team grow in experience.
Where it is now
The updated platform continues to serve dermatology practices across the US.
