Overview
Arbor Education helps UK schools manage administration, data, and communication. When I joined, its frontend had grown over many years and combined React with older SenchaJS code.
The challenge
Experienced team members were leaving, so we needed to preserve their knowledge and keep a large, older frontend working reliably.
The approach
I took over the older frontend, worked through persistent bugs, and gradually moved features to React.
My part in the project
I looked after a large frontend codebase, investigated bugs that had been around for years, and moved features from SenchaJS to React. I also built React Native applications and maintained shared components used by a large development team.
What changed
The system stayed stable through the team transition. We resolved old bugs that had been holding up work, and I became someone several teams could turn to for help with the frontend.
Where it is now
Arbor continues to develop its platform for UK schools. After this project, I moved into real-time gaming software.
